Every year In March, children in schools across the country kick off National Reading Month by celebrating the birthday of beloved Dr. Seuss. Throughout the month of March, we will highlight books that will entertain, enlighten, and encourage the understanding that reading can be fun for both adults and children alike.
Reading is one of the most underestimated yet crucial part of our daily lives. Studies show that the more one reads, there is an increase in the quality of life that is able to be attained.
There are times when young people and adults alike trick themselves into believing that they can’t read because they do not read as fast as some of their peers, or their voices sound awkward to themselves when reading out loud.
Everyone CAN read, and reading CAN be fun. It’s just that everyone reads differently, and the more you do it, the better you get at it.
In academia, there is often an assumption that certain books are deemed “scholarly”, and others deemed as not being worthy of reading and as a result, people are turned off by the notion of reading books that they cannot connect with.
We have a different idea. Why not read books that are whimsical…. that are fun to read, purely for enjoyment? Many people do not think that this is possible – at least possible for them, but it is.
Yet also, nothing inspires children to read more than seeing adults read at home… having regular family quite time for reading.
